Studio Overview
At High Desert Dance Arts we offer classes for beginning through advanced, preschool through adult students, in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, where dancers can be both encouraged to grow and challenged to dance to their full potential.

Our classes are designed to blend creativity with instilling the technique, steps and traditions of the styles of dance each student has chosen to study.  We also take pride in helping students develop positive social skills, such as respect for others, personal responsibility and correct class etiquette.

Our staff works to develop confidence in every student.  In return that level of confidence creates an environment of open encouragement throughout the studio.

Every student is placed by the Director and Teachers based on ability, maturity, and then age.  The ages and grades listed are only general guidelines.

You may join at any age and we will place you in the appropriate class.

Class Description and Requirement

Ballet
Ballet is the basis of all dance forms; building the correct technique and body placement needed to excel in other styles of dance.  As such, we encourage all our dancers to have some training in this field.

In Ballet you will learn to turn, leap and move gracefully while gaining flexibility and control.

We teach both Contemporary and Classical ballet but we consider ourselvesa Contemporary Ballet Studio.

Pre-Ballet (4yrs-Kindergarten) 30min Class $27 per month
Using creative dance and basic Ballet steps we introduce our young dancers to the world of Ballet. Developing body confidence and musical awareness, students increase their ability to follow directions and concentrate.

Dress: Black or pastel colored leotard, solid tights and pink ballet shoes
are required. Ballet skirt and ballet sweaters are optional. Hair must be
pulled out of face in a bun or ponytail. NO JEWLERY!
Boys-Black dance pants or sweats, a white shirt, and black ballet shoes.

Recital: These classes will perform in our Early Grade Recital.

Ballet I-III (1st-3rd Grade) 45 min Class $32 per month
At these levels we start working at the barre, where true Ballet technique begins to be developed. Concentration and listening skills are increased while we continue to encourage participation in the creative process and use of imagination.

Dress: Girls-Black or pastel leotard, solid tights, and pink ballet shoes are
required. Ballet skirt and ballet sweaters are optional. Hair must be
pulled out of face in a bun or ponytail. NO JEWLERY! 
Boys-Black dance pants or sweats, a white shirt, and black ballet shoes.

Recital: These classes will perform in our Early Grade Recital.

Ballet III-Intermediate (3rd Grade & up) 45min Class $32 per month
At each level we introduce more steps & combinations, increasing our students’

"Dance" vocabulary, both at the barre and center floor. Grace, flexibility & strength should continue to improve with each passing year.

Dress: Girls-Black, pastel or muted colors; solid tights, and pink ballet shoes are
required. Ballet skirt and ballet sweaters are optional. Hair must be
pulled out of face in a bun or ponytail. NO JEWLERY!
Boys-Black dance pants or sweats, a white shirt, and black ballet shoes.

Recital: This class will perform in our Showcase Recital.

Intermediate/Advanced Ballet/Beginning Pointe & Advanced Ballet/Pointe 1 hour  15 min class $40 per month
For girls, classes become more focused on either preparation for pointe work or pointe itself.  While for boys, it focuses on increasing strength for leaps, turns and partnering skills.  

All students at these levels are working to build more strength, balance and flexibility while expanding their powers of emotional expression and general stage presence.

**You must receive permission to go "en pointe" from Ms. Jessica or Ms. Caroline**

Dress: Girls-Black leotard, solid tights, pink split sole ballet shoes are
required. Pointe shoes should be seen by Ms Jessica or Ms Caroline prior to
sewing to ensure proper fit! Hair: in a bun.  NO JEWLERY!
Boys-Black dance pants, a white shirt, and black ballet shoes.

Recital: This class will perform in our Showcase Recital.


Tap
Using a wide variety of music from pop to Broadway, tap develops coordination, balance and musicality.  You can expect to learn to use your feet in different patterns and rhythms, synchronizing with music.

As in all our classes we teach respect for personal space, responsibility, and classroom etiquette.

PreTap-K (3yrs-K) 30min Class $27 per month
In classes filled with happy music and rhythmic exercises our little dancers learn the joy of making music with their feet!

Dress:  Girls-Leotard and/or a tight fitted shirt and tights, shorts, dance pants, or skirts are all acceptable. Black tap shoes are required. Hair must be pulled out of face in a ponytail.  NO JEWLERY!
Boys-Sweats, shorts, or dance pants, a white shirt with black tap shoes.

**NO sweatshirts, jogging pants or jeans!  NO JEWLERY!**

Recital:  This class will perform in our Early Grade Recital.

Tap I-III 45min Class $32 per month
Students learn their basic vocabulary of tap steps and begin to work
on sequence and patterns.

Dress:  Girls-Leotard and/or a tight fitted shirt and tights, shorts, dance pants, or skirts are all acceptable. Black tap shoes are required. Hair must be pulled out of face in a ponytail.  NO JEWLERY!
Boys-Sweats, shorts, or dance pants, a white shirt with black tap shoes.

**NO sweatshirts, jogging pants or jeans!  NO JEWLERY!**

Recital:  This class will perform in our Early Grade Recital.

Tap III-Int/Adv Tap 45min class $32 per month
At these levels, focus is on the importance of technique, rhythm and timing while increasing the difficulty and speed of the steps being learned.  At each level the ability to project "personality" and general stage presence increases.

Dress:  Girls-Leotard and/or a tight fitted shirt and tights, shorts, dance pants,
or skirts are all acceptable. Black tap shoes are required. Hair must be
pulled out of face in a ponytail.  NO JEWLERY!
Boys-Sweats, shorts, or dance pants, a white shirt with black tap shoes.

**NO sweatshirts, jogging pants or jeans!  NO JEWLERY!**

Recital:  This class will perform in our Showcase Recital.

Jazz
Exposing students to a little of everything, we teach a wide array of styles from rhythm jazz, to Broadway, hip hop and contemporary.  These classes are fast-paced and high-energy! 

Jazz I-VI (3rd graders and up) 45min class $32 per month
Using age appropriate music students will learn basic jazz technique including turns, high kicks, and leaps used in jazz.  We concentrate on building the strength, flexibility, and coordination needed to execute the fast movements of jazz.

Dress: Girls-Leotard or tight fitted shirt/tank and dance pants or shorts and tights. Black split sole jazz shoes; you must be in at least intermediate jazz to have dance sneakers. Hair must be pulled out of face in a ponytail.
Boys-Sweats, shorts, or dance pants, a white shirt with black jazz shoes.

Intermediate Jazz 1 hour class $35 per month

Advanced Jazz 1hour Class $35 per month
As students advance, gaining more flexibility and clarity of body line,they work to master multiple turns, more advanced leaps and more challenging combinations in all styles of Jazz. 
At each level of advancement their stage presence and abilities of emotional presentation become more pronounced.

Dress: Girls-Leotard or tight fitted shirt/tank and dance pants or shorts and tights. Black split sole jazz shoes; you must be in at least intermediate jazz to have dance sneakers. Hair must be pulled out of face in a ponytail.
Boys-Sweats, shorts, or dance pants, a white shirt with black jazz shoes.

Recital:  This class will perform in our Showcase Recital.

Hip-Hop (6th grade and up)
Video, street, funk, and pop n’ lock all are included in what is thought of today as hip hop.  Come join the fun on your Friday night, and learn a new style to broaden your horizons.  Let your technique loose on Friday nights with this fun funky style of dance.

Dress: loose funky cloths, active wear, and tennis shoes or jazz shoes.

Beginning Hip Hop
45 min class $32 per month

Intermediate Hip Hop
45 min class $32 per month

Invitation Only Classes (By invitation)
By Invitation, this class is for dancers who take dance seriously and have already demonstrated consistent professionalism in following the traits: poise, powers of self-expression and calm self-confidence provide a role model to other students, exemplifying dancer's commitment and discipline.

The choreography in these classes can be more intense, exciting & challenging due to the above qualities of the dancers invited to them.  The same abilities that students develop in these classes can benefit them later in college, careers & long-term life goals.

Ballet/Pointe 1 hour 15 minute class $40 per month
BALLET DRESS: Girls-Black leotard, pink ballet tights, pink split sole ballet shoes are required. Pointe shoes should be seen by Ms Jessica or Ms Caroline prior to sewing to ensure proper fit! Hair in a bun.  NO JEWLERY!
Boys-Sweats, shorts, or dance pants, a white shirt with black ballet shoes.

Contemporary/Lyrical 1 hour class $35 per month

DRESS: Girls-Black leotard, pink ballet tights, pink split sole ballet shoes are required. Pointe shoes should be seen by Ms Jessica or Ms Caroline prior to sewing to ensure proper fit! Hair in a bun.  NO JEWLERY!
Boys-Sweats, shorts, or dance pants, a white shirt with black ballet shoes.

Jazz 1 hour 15 minute class $40 per month
JAZZ DRESS: Girls-Leotard or tight fitted shirt/tank and tights, shorts or dance pants. Black split sole jazz shoes or dance paws. Hair must be pulled out of face in a ponytail.
Boys-Sweats, shorts, or dance pants, a white shirt with black jazz shoes.

Tap 1 hour 15 minute class $40 per month
TAP DRESS:  Girls-Leotard and/or a tight fitted shirt and tights, shorts, dance pants, or skirts all is acceptable. Black tap shoes are required. Hair must be pulled out of face in a ponytail.  NO JEWLERY!
Boys-Sweats, shorts, or dance pants, a white shirt with black tap shoes.

Junior & Senior HDDA Performance Troupe (by Auditions) 45 min class $37 per month
The members of this Troupe are required to take ballet and jazz to increase their knowledge of technique, so that in this class we can focus on performing, execution, and expression.  This group will gain additional exposure by traveling to Portland & Vancouver to attend dance conventions with America’s freshest talents and will be representing HDDA in competition.

Dress:  Girls-Black leotard, black shorts or jazz pants, tights, black jazz shoes. Hair in a bun.  NO JEWLERY!
Boys-Black dance pants, white t-shirt, black jazz shoes.
